About Richard Murray
Sculptor Designer Concept Creator

Richard was born in Miami, Florida, July 12, 1953, to parents Victor E. & Doris Murray.  He is the middle brother out of three sons that were each born three years apart. A native Floridian, he attended elementary, middle, and senior high school in Tampa. He went into the USAF on his 18th birthday.

After serving in the US Air Force Special Services as a Sergeant during the end of the Vietnam Era, Mr. Murray began his career in the arts as a jeweler and furniture designer.  In late 1976, by accident, he discovered the process of internal reverse sculpture, Intersculpt ™.

The Accident

In preparation for an art show, I was carving into the end of a clear 1.5” in diameter acrylic rod of when the phone rang in my studio. I reached to grab the phone to answer the call and fell, pulling my drilling stand down on top of me. The light fell on the back of my hand and was burning me so I slid my hand away from the light. When I moved my hand the light shined down the acrylic rod so I could see the image I was

carving from a different perspective.  The image resembled a miniature rock mesa that you might see in the desert. (but only one inch tall)

I jumped to my feet and opened up the studio and went outside for fresh air when I noticed my shadow was solid on the ground but there was a flashing light in the sky that was pulsing around my shadow.  I turned around and looked up to see that NASA had launched a rocket that lit the sky with flashes of daylight at 3:00am on a cloudless night.

It was at that moment, which was the birth of what I call my Art Form – Intersculpt™.

The Art Form – Intersculpt™

The image you see inside of the various sized and colored blocks of acrylic is a relief carving from the underneath side. The detailed image is obtained by various techniques of carving with special grinders and drills. This is a true three dimensional art form that is curious and yet soothing to the mind and soul.

The Imagery - Condra-Donn™

The Lunar Landscapes and Space Cities are creations of my inner most desire to see and feel life on another planet. Only through imagination can this be done. The Art Form sets the basic foundation for anyone looking upon the cities of Condra-Donn to imagine and experience the journey for themselves.
